HELLSTORM: 28 YEARS

From the smoke-filled mIRC halls of 1998 to a PPL licence today. The manifesto. Unedited.

It all began in a world that today looks like an archive from another planet. The year was 1998. A time when the internet was a luxury, and we gathered in smoky computer halls in front of the white screens of mIRC. There, under borrowed nicknames and in rooms with thousands of strangers, #hellstorm was born. Not just a chat channel, but the beginning of a community hungry for adrenaline.

Cinema and dreams of steel

Back then, manhood was measured by the images on the screen. We watched „The Terminator", „Top Gun", „Point Break" and „Mission: Impossible". In those films the real tough guys didn't just save the world — they did it on powerful motorcycles, pulling off stunts that took your breath away.

And our reality? Our reality was the „Balkan 50". A machine you spend more time repairing than riding. But each of us wore with pride the „medal" of that era: the scar of burnt skin on the right calf, left by the red-hot exhaust of the little Balkan.

Japanese motorcycles were a myth we only read about in „Motomania" magazine. Legends spoke of „mercury columns" in their frames that supposedly made them impossible to drop. We stared in awe when some „chosen one" pulled up on one in the pedestrian zone of old Nessebar. These works of art radiated respect — their chains looked like shackles for a dragon, and their tyres promised a speed we had only dreamed of.

When Paris was Outer Space

In 2001, travelling to Europe was still an event bordering on the exotic. When I went on a school trip to Paris, I wasn't stunned by the Louvre, but by the fact that there the future had already happened. While the others were out shopping for clothes, I spent hours in the Honda and Yamaha showrooms. Buying a T-shirt or a keychain from there wasn't just shopping — it was touching a world that in Bulgaria we had yet to build.

From analog tape to digital drift

Hellstorm's first website was a battle with technology. I built it on Joomla — many times harder than today's platforms. We shot on film cameras, scanned the photos and uploaded them one by one. Then came the camcorders with tapes and the pictures „came alive".

Before YouTube, we were on the first Bulgarian video site — Vbox7. We made clips with stunts — motorcycles on the back wheel, cars on two wheels, drifts. No tracks, no bases, often with problems, but with pure passion.

We were the first influencers — long before that word became a profession.

The new chapter: To be able is to exist

Life changes. Our magazine, though only three issues, left a mark. Drag, enduro and drift racing taught us discipline. With the arrival of the first child, priorities shifted, but the energy stayed. Today Hellstorm is my return to the hobby as a philosophy.

From off-road adventures to the sky, where today I fly as a pilot with a PPL licence (inspired by my father and his service in the OSO) — this is my way of breaking out of the „work to live" cycle. Hellstorm is about breaking away from the everyday and constant self-improvement. It doesn't matter whether you win a medal. Only one thing matters: the feeling that you master yourself and the machine.

I can, therefore I am.
